Year 7 Intake

During Year 5 & 6 all parents are welcome to contact the Academy for a tour of our facilities. There is also an Open Evening in the Autumn Term to enable parents to make an informed Secondary School decision.

Applications for places in Year 7 at Leeds East Academy for September should be made in the usual way via Leeds City Council Admissions Team, who will notify parents/carers of decisions on places allocated for September during the first few days of March.  If a parent/carer does not receive a letter from the Admissions Team at Leeds City Council within the first week of March they should contact them directly on (0113) 222 4144.

You can begin the admissions process from 1 September 2023 to 31 October 2023

Once a parent/carer receives notification from Leeds City Council that their child has been allocated a place in Year 7 at Leeds East Academy, they should then contact the school direct to accept or decline the place on offer.  This can be done by calling (0113) 273 1964 and asking to speak to the Admissions Officer or by emailing info@leedseastacademy.org.uk, marking the email for the attention of the Admissions Officer.

Should a parent/carer choose to decline the place allocated, they will be asked to follow this up with a letter clearly stating their reasons for doing this and this can either be emailed to the address above or posted to:

When a place has been confirmed, Year 6 pupils will have the opportunity to visit us on the Transition Day which usually takes place in July. This day will involve meeting pupils from different schools and our staff. Activities are designed to encourage new friendships and familiarity with their new surroundings.

The admissions timeline for Leeds City Council can be found below:

1 September 2023 Applications open
31 October 2023 National deadline for applying
28 November 2023 Deadline for late applications and changes (for schools which follow our admissions policy)
1 March 2024 National offer day

In-Year Admissions

Whilst Leeds City Council will still have responsibility for managing the new Year 7 intake from Primary, Secondary schools are legally responsible and have a duty to manage and process their own in year admissions. However, parents/carers can still apply via Leeds City Council and this will then be passed on to the School in question and this can be done via the following link.

Alternatively, as a result of secondary schools managing their own in year transfers parents/carers can also apply direct to the academy by downloading the application form attached to the link above, completing this and returning directly to the academy.

It is advised that before completing any application form and applying for an in-year transfer that parents arrange a visit to see the academy.

Appeals for Leeds East Academy

If the Governors have not been able to meet your preference for a place at Leeds East Academy, you can appeal against the decision to an independent appeals panel.

New Year 7 Intake Appeals submitted on or before 28 March 2024 will be heard before the end of the academic year in July. You will receive at least 10 school days notice of your appeal hearing. For In-Year appeals (those relating to other than the new Year 7 intake), the appeal will be heard no later than 30 school days after receipt of the application.

The receipt of all applications will be acknowledged and you will be notified of the date and time of your appeal hearing at least ten working days before the appeal.

You must ensure that all documentation is submitted in good time for it to be passed on to each member of the appeal panel, no later than seven days before your appeal.  Ideally you should include supplementary documentation with your appeal form. Following the hearing, decision letters will be sent within five school days of the hearing.

School days are term time only and do not include school holidays. If an appeal is submitted in the holidays, the school days deadline will not start until the beginning of the next term, e.g. an appeal received in July after schools have closed will not be heard until the new academic term.  School days will start from when the Academy re-opens in September.

If you have any questions about either the admissions or appeals process for Leeds East Academy, please don’t hesitate to contact us on (0113) 273 1964 or email info@leedseastacademy.org.uk

Further information about the appeals process can be found on the Leeds City Council website here.
