Year 7 Intake

During Year 5 all parents are welcome to contact the Academy for a tour of our facilities. There is also an Open Evening in the Summer Term to enable parents to make an informed Secondary School decision.

Applications for places in Year 7 at Leeds East Academy for September should be made in the usual way via Leeds City Council Admissions Team, who will notify parents/carers of decisions on places allocated for September during the first few days of March.  If a parent/carer does not receive a letter from the Admissions Team at Leeds City Council within the first week of March they should contact them direct on (0113) 2224144.

Once a parent/carer receives notification from Leeds City Council that their child has been allocated a place in Year 7 at Leeds East Academy, they should then contact the school direct to accept or decline the place on offer.  This can be done by calling (0113) 2731964 and asking to speak to the Year 7 School Manager or by emailing info@leedseastacademy.org.uk, marking the email for the attention of the Year 7 School Manager.

Should a parent/carer choose to decline the place allocated, they will be asked to follow this up with a letter clearly stating their reasons for doing this and this can either be emailed to the address above or posted to:-

When a place has been confirmed, Year 6 pupils will have the opportunity to visit us on the Transition Day which usually takes place in July. This day will involve meeting pupils from different schools and our staff. Activities are designed to encourage new friendships and familiarity with their new surroundings.

In-Year Admissions

From September 2013, whilst Leeds City Council will still have responsibility for managing the new Year 7 intake from Primary Schools, all Secondary Schools will be legally responsible with the duty to manage and process their own in-year admissions.

As a result of this parents/carers who have children in any year group can now contact the school directly to arrange a visit to look around the school and request an Application Form, which is to be completed and returned to school. Alternatively, you can click on the link above to download a form for completion and return it to the Academy.  Please ensure the ‘Headteacher’s Sign Off’ sheet on the application form is completed and signed by the Headteacher of your current school

Appeals for Leeds East Academy

If the Governors have not been able to meet your preference for a place at Leeds East Academy, you can appeal against the decision to an independent appeals panel.

New Year 7 Intake Appeals submitted on or before the 28th March 2017 will be heard before the end of the academic year in July. You will receive at least 10 school days notice of your appeal hearing. For In-Year appeals (those relating to other than the new Year 7 intake), the appeal will be heard no later than 30 school days after receipt of the application.

The receipt of all applications will be acknowledged and you will be notified of the date and time of your appeal hearing at least ten working days before the appeal.

You must ensure that all documentation is submitted in good time for it to be passed on to each member of the appeal panel, no later than seven days before your appeal.  Ideally you should include supplementary documentation with your appeal form. Following the hearing, decision letters will be sent within five school days of the hearing.

School days are term time only and do not include school holidays. If an appeal is submitted in the holidays, the school days deadline will not start until the beginning of the next term, e.g. an appeal received in July after schools have closed will not be heard until the new academic term.  School days will start from when the Academy re-opens in September.

If you have any questions about either the admissions or appeals process for Leeds East Academy, please don’t hesitate to contact us on (0113) 2731964 or email info@leedseastacademy.org.uk

THE ADMISSION NUMBER OF THE SCHOOL

Each school has a limited number of places available and this is called the admission number of the school. The number is based on annual consultations between The Local Authority and the Governors at every school.

The number reflects the teaching space and curriculum of the school. It takes into account specialist facilities such as art rooms and science laboratories, as well as the number of classrooms. There are Government regulations which mean we cannot artificially lower the numbers at schools and we must admit to the published number.

As an Academy, The Leeds East Academy admission number is set by the academy itself and discussed every year within the academy Governing Body who has the opportunity to request an increase or decrease if circumstances has changed.

The Academy is responsible for determining the admission number for the school as well as the internal organisation, class sizes, setting arrangements, number of teachers employed, is the responsibility of the Principal or Governing Body.

The funding agreement for Leeds East Academy only agrees the admission number for Year 7 and 6th Form.  The Academy are funded for the number of children on the school roll as at 1st September in all other year groups and retrospectively for Year 7 depending on the number of students admitted.
